Customs & Clearance Information at destination
Any shipments which require formal import must have AWB and invoices clearly stating “Formal Import” in the description of Contents field, otherwise it may not be properly cleared.
Goods requiring any type of import permit will be processed as a formal clearance regardless of value or amount.
No photo copies or proforma invoices are accepted.
All non document shipments require an original commercial invoice signed by the shipper.
Invoice must indicate individual description of every item, unit value per item, total value per item And total value of the shipment.
Values declared on the AWB and Invoice must be a realistic market value.
FREE DOMICILE (DDP) service is available. If you require a DDP this must be requested before the export on the shipment.
Cosmetics: Health permit & Import License required. Can be imported only by authorized companies/people. Registration number of goods or copy of import license must be attached to permit request. (3-4 days process)
If shipment is over USD1000 a Value declaration forms is needed.and must be endorsed by a Legal Rep in case of companies. Value Declaration Form must be signed by CNEE. Invoice must be endorsed by consignee (Legal Rep in case of Companies). Invoice must be written in Spanish otherwise, consignee must provide translation.
Consignee must provide photocopy of valid tax ID number. Clearance process starts when consignee returns paperwork to DHL with all of the above requirements. – Further delays may be expected if above requirements are not met.
If the consignee or importer is a person (meaning not a company) and is the first time doing so, the person needs to be included in the customs data base in order to start the clearance, in this case a photocopy of an official ID will be required (for foreigners only the passport is a valid ID).
This applies for both Costa Rica citizens and foreigners and it only needs to be done once.
